Product Description

Hard-coated Low-E glass, also known as in-line Low-E, is made using a pyrolysis process to produce a pyrolytic coating. The coating is then applied to a glass ribbon produced on a float glass production line, which "melts" the coating onto the hot glass surface. This fusion creates a strong bond or "hard coat" that is extremely durable.

Low-emissivity (low-e) glass coatings are developed to minimize the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that passes through the glass without affecting the amount of visible light transmitted. A microscopically thin clear coating enables low-e glass to reflect external heat at high temperatures and retain heat at low temperatures, making buildings bright and energy-efficient.

Low-e coating plays an important role in the overall performance of your windows and can significantly impact your home's overall heating, lighting, and cooling costs. Typically, highly reflective materials have lower emissivity, while dull, dark materials have higher emissivity. All materials, including windows, re-radiate heat in the form of long-wave infrared energy, depending on the emissivity and temperature of the surface. Radiant energy is one of the important ways of heat transfer in windows. Reducing the emissivity of one or more glass surfaces improves the thermal insulation properties of a window. Therefore, using low-e glass can ultimately improve the outside temperature of your home in any climate. If you live in an extremely cold climate, hard-coated Low-E glass may be your choice because it allows some sunlight to enter the interior. Shortwave infrared energy passes through glass. Hard-coated Low-E glass helps heat your home in the winter and allows the glass to reflect long-wave heat into the interior.
